This month, it\u2019s more important than ever to reflect on the progress and setbacks in our journey toward building inclusive and equitable workplaces. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I recently came across this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/axios-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Axios<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> article that highlights startling statistics of corporations scaling back their DEI initiatives. It\u2019s extremely disheartening to see the enthusiasm and commitment once displayed toward creating diverse and inclusive workplaces fade under the pressure of political backlash and litigation fears. This graph tells the whole story:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/02\/dei-backlash-diversity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19730\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pancommunications.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-17-at-12.42.51\u202fPM-100x78.png\" alt=\"Mentions of &quot;DEI&quot; or &quot;diversity, equity and inclusion&quot; in quarterly earnings calls depicted in a graph showing quarterly data from the first quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2024\" width=\"1200\" height=\"942\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is a stark reminder of the declining commitment to these values in corporate America. It also reinforces the need for leaders to stand firm in their dedication to these principles. As we continue throughout what\u2019s sure to be a polarizing election, I unfortunately expect to see even more setbacks by way of DEI in the workplace.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Although PAN has evolved, and so has my management style, I\u2019ve never lost sight of encouraging employees to bring their whole selves to work. As an openly gay CEO, I am very passionate about accepting others in DEI and belonging. My responsibility as a CEO is to help make those in a minority group feel welcomed and accepted. DEI remains central to all we do at PAN \u2013 guiding how we build teams, cultivate leaders and engage with our clients and their stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This commitment is not just about maintaining the status quo. It&#8217;s about actively pushing forward, even when it&#8217;s easier to pull back. As we continue to be dedicated to this, it<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s been remarkable and rewarding to see the transformative power it brings to our work and the way we serve our clients.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">You can learn more about PAN\u2019s DEI journey <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pancommunications.com\/agency\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">here<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, but rest assured we\u2019re always trying to learn and grow in this area. I\u2019m also happy to share that we\u2019ve just opened an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/jobs\/view\/3885144648\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">internship program<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> in collaboration with the four Historically Black Colleges and Universities we partner with.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">This Celebrate Diversity Month, it is no better time for corporate leaders to innovate in how we uphold and promote these values. Whether it&#8217;s through transparent communication, continuous education or revised policies that ensure fairness and equity, our actions will demonstrate our true commitment to the cause.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As we move forward, let\u2019s remember that the diversity of our people is the most valuable asset we have. Let\u2019s use this month to reaffirm our commitment to diversity, not just in words but through actions.
